DESCRIPTION:St. George Orthodox Cathedral is proud to announce its 2024 Annual Summer Festival on August 2\, 3\, 4 2024. It will be held on the Cathedral grounds at 3754 Woodley Road. On Friday\, August 2nd the Middle Eastern festival gate will open at 5:00 PM. It will continue on Saturday\, August 3rd at 4:00 PM\, and close on Sunday\, August 4th from noon until 5:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 per person\, and children 10 and under are free.\nThis year’s festival will feature the local bands of Madison Avenue on Friday night\, and The Grape Smugglers on Saturday evening. On Sunday we will be entertained by After Shock featuring our own Nate Khoury and Dave Hairabedian. And of course\, Middle Eastern music\, a belly dancer and dancing will entertain the crowd throughout the weekend.\nMiddle Eastern and American food will be available for purchase. Favorites will include sfeeha (meat pies)\, green beans and rice\, baked kibbe (a meat and wheat mixture)\, grape leaf rolls\, and the Middle Eastern pastries that everyone craves. In the Fast Food area Middle Eastern and American sandwiches\, French fries\, and the ever popular Zalabee (elephant ears) are among the smells filling the air. Adult beverages and soft drinks will quench all thirsty desires.\nA children’s area will include kiddie carnival games\, crafts\, and bouncy houses. Sand art and face painting will also be among the activities to keep the children busy.\nSelf-guided church tours will run throughout the festival hours. Our beloved priest\, Very Reverend Archpriest Michael Shaheen\, will be available for any questions that may arise. The exhibit hall is well-lit under a 2\,300 lb. hand-forged iron and blown glass Queen Anne’s Lace chandelier made by Sauder craftsmen. Extensive exhibit signage provides education\, insight\, and artist recognition. In addition to hooked and punched work\, the exhibit also includes a variety of other fiber arts. Exhibitors typically represent 40 U.S. states\, as well as Canada\, and other countries. Participating exhibitors pre-register online\, and receive complimentary admission Wednesday-Saturday to the exhibit and vendors. The exhibits include: \n\nFeature Exhibits – pay tribute to the work of outstanding contemporary and historic artists. Each of these extensive collections offers a wonderful and rare opportunity to admire and study closely the techniques\, colors\, designs\, materials\, and the in-depth story of talented artists. Collections are on loan from artists\, or gathered from private collectors and museums.\nSpecial Exhibits – present innovative and original works done by an individual or group of artists which represent contemporary or historic themes\, concepts\, ideas\, techniques\, and educational and regional projects.\nCelebration of Hand-Hooked Rugs Exhibit – culmination of the annual competition sponsored by Rug Hooking magazine. Each year the artists are invited to exhibit their award-winning work in this exclusive exhibit. Popular Jelly Roll hits include\, “Dead Man Walking\,” “Son of a Sinner\,” and his current hit\, “Save Me\,” a duet with Lainey Wilson. Opening for Jelly Roll is Oliver Anthony\, who in August became an overnight national sensation with the release of “Rich Men North of Richmond.” He also made music history this year by becoming the first artist to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard charts without previously having a song on the charts\, and is the first living male songwriter to chart 13 songs simultaneously on Billboard’s Top 50 Digital Song Sales. \nHARDY was the most nominated artist at 2023’s Academy of Country Music Awards\, HARDY walked away with three wins – Artist-Songwriter of the Year and Visual Media of the Year and Music Event of the Year for his duet “Wait in the Truck” with Lainey Wilson. There is no readmittance if you leave the venue!\nThe North gate entrance area will be located next to the taxi & bus drop off point near the small terminal building.\nThe South gate will be for those driving golf carts to the event and anyone walking from the Miller Ferry dock. Golf cart parking will be located at the South end of the runway. There is a 10 dollar fee to park your golf carts which will be donated to charity.\nAttendees walking from the Miller Ferry will be directed by security to enter the venue off of Airline Drive. You may then proceed to the southern entry point. Airline Drive can be accessed only off southern end of the airport off of Langram Road. \nNFL bag policy will be enforced.\nAll concertgoers must pass through security.\nNo backpacks allowed\nNo coolers\nNo blankets\nNo alcohol\nNo weapons of any type\nNo large signs\nNo strollers\nNo drugs\nNo laser pointers\nNo food\nNo umbrellas \nCamera Policy:\nNo professional video or recording equipment allowed.\nFlash photography is also prohibited.
