SUMMARY:Remembering 9/11 | Clarence Singleton: The Heart of a Hero
DESCRIPTION:In remembrance of 9/11\, join us for a special author event featuring Clarence Singleton\, a former Marine\, firefighter\, and veteran who responded to both attacks on the World Trade Center. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis event will feature a presentation by the author followed by audience Q&A. An opportunity to purchase his book and meet the author will follow the formal program. \nABOUT THE BOOK \nHow do you keep going forward when hope and a miracle are nowhere in sight? From the dust and rubble of Ground Zero on 9/11\, Clarence Singleton takes readers on a harrowing emotional journey to hope and starting over. \nFrom the jungles of Vietnam\, where he was awarded a Purple Heart\, to the ash of that unspeakable day in our history\, from a hard-scrabble childhood\, to a new marriage and the promise of a loving future\, Singleton never quits\, never gives up. Even facing post-traumatic stress disorder\, where every crowded mall or sound of a helicopter sends his body signals that it’s time to “fight or take flight\,” Clarence still puts one foot in front of the other\, through his deep faith and abiding sense of duty\, to move forward to a miracle. \nABOUT THE AUTHOR   \nClarence Singleton is a motivational speaker\, author\, a former United States Marine\, a veteran of the Vietnam War\, and a Purple Heart Medal recipient. Singleton is also a decorated former New York City Firefighter whose unit responded to the first attack on the World Trade Center in 1993\, where he was credited with saving numerous lives. After retiring from the FDNY in 2000\, Singleton volunteered for duty on September 11\, 2001 at the World Trade Center\, where he was seriously injured and was featured in One Nation: America Remembers September 11\, 2001 by the authors of Life Magazine. \nSingleton has delivered numerous inspirational speeches throughout the Mid-Atlantic. He has been featured in a number of regional publications and has appeared on the Montel Williams Show and on several radio stations. Singleton has delivered the keynote address at Chester County’s Honor and Remembrance Ceremony\, commemorating the anniversary of 9/11—the day that changed the world. \nThis event is brought to you and sponsored by the City of Oregon.

SUMMARY:Put-in-Bay Ohio Historical Weekend
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy Historical Weekend September 11th-13th!\nIf you love great summer weather and good times\, and you’re also a history buff\, this is the Put-in-Bay Ohio weekend for you. Put-in-Bay Historical Weekend is a grand occasion where the island remembers its incredible place in American history with reenactments\, live entertainment\, and art. It’s an excellent opportunity to have fun\, learn\, and enjoy Put-in-Bay for a weekend. Book your lodging early! \nThe Battle of Lake Erie\nThe War of 1812 was not going particularly well for the fledgling nation of America prior to September 10\, 1813. The British mounted many successful campaigns against America in 1812\, including the Siege of Detroit\, which led to Detroit being surrendered to the British. One of the big reasons Britain had so much success in their campaigns in the area was their control of Lake Erie. Control would be wrestled away\, however\, on that fateful day. Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry commanded a fleet of 9 United States Navy vessels as they captured the 6 vessel fleet the British Royal Navy had positioned in Lake Erie. \nThis victory allowed America to control Lake Erie for the remainder of the war. American forces reclaimed Detroit within days of this victory. The war continued for another two years. However the Battle of Lake Erie is what placed America back on equal footing. It was the major turning point in the conflict\, and it all happened at Put-in-Bay Ohio. \nInterested in coming to this event? Contact our favorite lodging partners!\n\nIsland Club Rentals (islandclub.com) – 216-898-9951\nPut-in-Bay Condos (putinbaycondos.com) – 216-898-1105\nCommodore Resort (commodoreresort.com) – 419-285-3101\nVictory Station Hotel (putinbayvictorystation.com) – 419-285-0120\nBird’s Nest Resort (birdsnestresort.com) – 419-285-6119\n\nAnd follow these quick links to plan the rest of your trip!\n\nThings To Do At Put-in-Bay\nGolf Cart Rental Information\nPut-in-Bay’s Restaurants And Bars\nFerry Information\n\nPut-in-Bay Historical Weekend\nSome of the events of this fantastic weekend include a military encampment in the style of the War of 1812. This will be located all weekend at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial. A visit to the monument is of course also a great way\, perhaps the best way\, to learn more about the Battle of Lake Erie. There will also be over 1\,000 Boy Scouts camping at the Memorial on the east lawn for their camporee event. They will learn about the history of the Battle of Lake Erie during their stay. \nDon’t forget that Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial is open all summer. So if you can’t make it for the Put-in-Bay Historical Weekend\, you can still come and learn about this fascinating piece of naval history right in our own back yard!

SUMMARY:Authors! with Ann Aguirre
DESCRIPTION:New York Times and USA Today bestseller Ann Aguirre joins Authors! to discuss her latest book\, The Hocus Pocus Handbook. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThank you to our sponsors!\nThe Library Legacy Foundation | Huntington Bank | UToledo Health | Friends of the Library\nAbout the event\nStep into a world of whimsy as New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ann Aguirre joins Authors! to discuss her latest fantasy romance\, The Hocus Pocus Handbook. Celebrated for her heartwarming found families and vibrant\, inclusive worlds\, Aguirre invites readers to explore the comforting side of speculative fiction. Sit back as she pulls back the curtain on her writing process\, sharing how she balances high-stakes fae politics with a comforting\, slow-burn romance. This magical evening features a 45-minute presentation followed by an audience Q&A. Each ticket purchase includes a first-edition\, hardcover copy of the book to add to your personal collection. \nAbout the book\nThe Hocus Pocus Handbook plunges readers into a vibrant realm of wildcraft magic\, fickle brownies\, and capricious fae courts. Thea Winter didn’t exactly choose to be a changeling—stolen from the mortal world as an infant\, she was raised by a pragmatic hobgoblin who taught her everything except how to stay out of trouble. When her spouse abruptly bolts from their unwanted-but-convenient marriage\, Thea must hunt him down. She is reluctantly paired with Kerboros\, a reserved and humorless enforcer known as the Winter’s Hound\, who has never known freedom. As this unlikely duo embarks on a sweeping quest\, a classic sunshine-and-shadow dynamic ignites\, proving that when an irresistible force meets an immovable object\, the resulting chemistry might just upend the entire Winter Court. \nAbout the author\nAnn Aguirre is a versatile\, bestselling author who has written across multiple genres\, including urban fantasy\, romantic suspense\, sci-fi\, and cozy paranormal rom-coms like her beloved Fix-It Witches series. With a degree in English literature\, she spent years working various jobs—including a voice actress and a data dumper—before making her literary mark with her breakout science fiction series. Widely praised for her rich world-building\, diverse characters\, and “period-perfect” emotional pacing\, Aguirre has a gift for making even the most fantastical settings feel like home. She currently lives in Mexico with her family\, surrounded by a mountain of books\, where she continues to craft delightfully comforting escapes for readers worldwide.
