SUMMARY:Denny Schaffer Winter Dance Party
DESCRIPTION:Glass City Center | 8 p.m. \nCost: $25\nWelcome to the hottest party of the winter!\nThe Denny Schaffer Winter Dance Party 2022 to benefit Veterans Matter. The event will feature ’80s and early ’90s music (plan on rocking a totally rad outfit from either decade). \nFirst\, thank you for helping us house more Heroes! We started as a small hometown effort to just house 35 local veterans. At the urging of\, and with funds raised by Dusty Hill of ZZ Top\, John Mellencamp and Mitch Albom\, it has grown. We have now housed over 5\,000 Veterans nationwide. \nOver 500 Veterans have been housed just from Denny’s Dance Parties. If you have attended one of the dances\, you are a Hero to these Heroes (and if you bought a Heroes Table\, 80 of those vets have been housed just by you).

SUMMARY:The Underground Railroad Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:National Museum of the Great Lakes | March 22-June 16 \nThe Underground Railroad: An NMGL Micro Exhibit \nNorthwest Ohio played an important role in the Underground Railroad during the 1850s and ’60s. Given its proximity to the Michigan border and distance from more heavily populated areas\, Sylvania saw many such freedom seekers pass through its boundaries. The Lathrop House is thought to be one of such stops in a complex system that connected an estimated 80\,000 people to a road towards freedom. \nWhat role did Northwest Ohio play in the Underground Railroad? How were the Great Lakes used as a route to freedom? \nTogether\, in partnership with Heritage Sylvania\, we are further exploring these questions and more by taking a closer look at written records and artifacts which highlight the inspiring history of the Underground Railroad and the pivotal role Toledo\, Sylvania\, and all of Northwest Ohio played as one of the last stops before the Great Lakes\, Canada\, and freedom. \nExhibit admission is free for members and included with any museum admission purchase.\nThe temporary exhibit will be open during regular museum hours—from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday thru Saturday and Sunday from noon – 5 p.m.\nIndividuals can purchase same-day tickets at the door or online in advance here.

SUMMARY:John Waite
DESCRIPTION:Stranahan Theater | 8 p.m.\n\nDoors open at 7 p.m.\nTickets: $19.50 to $49.50\nTickets at etix.com or Stranahan Theater box office.\n\nJohn Waite first came to prominence as the vocalist and bassist of the English rock outfit The Babys\, best known for the hits “Isn’t It Time?” and “Every Time I Think of You” in the late 1970s. That group disbanded in 1980 and Waite went on to a very successful solo career\, scoring a Number One U.S. hit with “Missing You.”\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn 1988\, Waite teamed up with former Babys members Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips\, along with Neil Schon and drummer Deen Castronovo to form the supergroup Bad English. At the time Cain and Schon were also members of Journey\, which was on hiatus for a few years. Bad English went to the top of the charts with the Diane Warren ballad “When I See You Smile.” The group dissolved in 1992\, and Waite resumed his solo career. \nCountless musicians of far lesser accomplishment have probably made similar statements regarding their own personal creative process\, but when the confession comes from John Waite – whose been successfully writing\, recording and performing some of the most listenable\, enduring and appreciated popular music for more than 35 years – one cannot help but both recognize and marvel at the shimmering legacy of this British born rock star.
