SUMMARY:50th Anniversary Edmund Fitzgerald Tours
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the loss of the S.S. Edmund Fitzgerald on November 10\, 1975 we are offering a weekend of special tours\, co-presented by The Lathrop Company and The Collaborative. Take a guided tour of the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship\, using our lake freighter and its similarities to the Edmund Fitzgerald to discuss the events of November 10\, 1975\, theories surrounding the sinking and stories about the 29 crew members who were lost. This tour is approximately 75 minutes long. Tours take place every 30 minutes Friday\, November 7 through Monday\, November 10\, with the first tour starting at 10 am and the last tour beginning at 3:30 PM. \nTickets are $20 for NMGL members and $40 for non-members. Each tour will be limited to 12 people. Guests will also receive a museum store discount of 10% (non-members) / 20% (members) off in-store purchases. \nYour tour purchase includes admission to the National Museum of the Great Lakes!\nDue to its historical accuracy\, the Col. James M. Schoonmaker Museum Ship is not handicap or wheelchair accessible. Narrow\, steep staircases are common throughout the Schoonmaker and may provide difficulties in accessibility for some. \nThe Schoonmaker is also not heated and much of the tour is on uncovered decks. We encourage you to dress appropriately for the weather. If we determine that the weather has made these tours impossible\, we will provide a refund of the ticket price (minus fees). If the program is canceled we are not planning a make-up date. \nYou can process a refund (minus fees) and cancel your ticket up to 7 days before the event.

SUMMARY:Shostakovich & Schubert
DESCRIPTION:Pairing brilliance with poignancy\, this concert features two quintessential chamber works by two prolific composers. Though both of these pieces are landmarks\, they were each written within the span of less than three months.  Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet was an immediate public success\, with audiences occasionally demanding encores of the entire work. On the other hand\, Schubert’s String Quintet\, completed just two months before his death\, was neglected for decades before attaining its rightful place as one of chamber music’s most beloved pieces. \nBuckeye Broadband & The Blade Chamber Series performances are held in the intimate setting of the Robert Bell Studio at the Toledo Center for Live Arts.

SUMMARY:On Golden Pond
DESCRIPTION:This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer\, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor\, nearing eighty\, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued\, observant\, and eager for life as ever. Ethel\, ten years younger\, and the perfect foil for Norman\, delights in all the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together. They are visited by their divorced\, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé\, who then go off to Europe\, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the “grandchild” the elderly couple have longed for\, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him\, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness—and slang—in return. In the end\, as the summer wanes\, so does their brief idyll\, and in the final\, deeply moving moments of the play\, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time\, they know\, is now against them\, but the years have been good and\, perhaps\, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. \nOct. 31 – 7:30 p.m. \nNov. 1 – 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. \nNov. 2 – 2 p.m.
