SUMMARY:On Golden Pond
DESCRIPTION:This is the love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer\, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. He is a retired professor\, nearing eighty\, with heart palpitations and a failing memory—but still as tart-tongued\, observant\, and eager for life as ever. Ethel\, ten years younger\, and the perfect foil for Norman\, delights in all the small things that have enriched and continue to enrich their long life together. They are visited by their divorced\, middle-aged daughter and her dentist fiancé\, who then go off to Europe\, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. The boy quickly becomes the “grandchild” the elderly couple have longed for\, and as Norman revels in taking his ward fishing and thrusting good books at him\, he also learns some lessons about modern teenage awareness—and slang—in return. In the end\, as the summer wanes\, so does their brief idyll\, and in the final\, deeply moving moments of the play\, Norman and Ethel are brought even closer together by the incidence of a mild heart attack. Time\, they know\, is now against them\, but the years have been good and\, perhaps\, another summer on Golden Pond still awaits. \nOct. 31 – 7:30 p.m. \nNov. 1 – 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. \nNov. 2 – 2 p.m.

SUMMARY:The Capitol Fools
DESCRIPTION:Perfect for this political climate\, Capitol Fools delivers sharp\, timely satire that helps audiences laugh at the absurdities of today’s polarized and often chaotic political landscape. As a successor to the legendary Capitol Steps\, the group continues the tradition of nonpartisan musical and sketch comedy that skewers both sides of the aisle. SUMMARY:Shostakovich & Schubert
DESCRIPTION:Pairing brilliance with poignancy\, this concert features two quintessential chamber works by two prolific composers. Though both of these pieces are landmarks\, they were each written within the span of less than three months.  Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet was an immediate public success\, with audiences occasionally demanding encores of the entire work. On the other hand\, Schubert’s String Quintet\, completed just two months before his death\, was neglected for decades before attaining its rightful place as one of chamber music’s most beloved pieces. \nBuckeye Broadband & The Blade Chamber Series performances are held in the intimate setting of the Robert Bell Studio at the Toledo Center for Live Arts.

Moon will also share with the audience how her father’s recording of “The Wreck” influenced her family life\, and her own career path. Conversations and music for all ages to enjoy. \n\n\nMeredith’s website reveals that the Ontario-based singer began writing songs at the age of eight\, taught herself guitar by the age of 14 and travelled Canada as a busker while still in her teens.\n\nMoon is the daughter of legendary singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. It’s not that Moon actively hid this fact\, but she has made efforts since entering the spotlight to ensure her music speaks for itself. That included adopting her mother’s maiden name. Even when she opened for Lightfoot for some 2022 dates\, before his death\, neither mentioned the connection to the audience. Meredith’s genre is in roots and folk music.\n\nRemembering the Edmund Fitzgerald – National Museum of the Great Lakes\n\nhttps://nmgl.org/fitzgerald50/
