Beginning his exploration of sound in the late fifties\, Clinton formed The Parliaments\, initially recording for the Detroit-based Revilot Records\, which had their first hit single in 1967. Over the years playing with ensembles of up to 50 musicians\, Clinton has taken R&B\, Soul\, and Funk to new heights. Although the names and make-up of his bands have changed through the years\, he has remained steadfast in his unique style. He is responsible for chart-topping dance tracks like Flash Light\, Aqua Boogie\, and One Nation Under a Groove. \nAdopted by the early 90s rise of funk-inspired rap\, his sound had renewed notoriety. Artists from MC Hammer to LL Cool J and Snoop Dogg depended heavily on the infectious groove of Clinton’s productions as the foundation of their recordings. The music legend was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the renowned Berklee College of Music and has been inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. \nBefore the pandemic\, Clinton had gathered a new band and was getting ready to “go hard” on what he thought might be his career culminating tour. Instead\, being grounded and without the outlet of the tour\, Clinton became a prolific painter and relied heavily on what he called “the Funkosophy” (the philosophy of funk). Freddie Mercury and Queen gave us so many of these power songs that evoke feelings we often associate with certain life events. In 1993\, after the passing of the legendary Mercury\, Patrick Myers put together a band to pay tribute to the mythic singer. From the UK\, Killer Queen’s first gig was at London University\, where Mercury himself once played. They immediately gained a following. Since then the band has honored Queen’s memory by playing giant stadiums worldwide. \nKiller Queen is no stranger to our riverfront. On their last visit to Toledo\, the crowd erupted\, with fans begging for more. We were disappointed that the pandemic grounded them from our 2021 lineup\, so we eagerly welcome them back to Promenade Park for their much anticipated 2022 tour.

When Motown’s Berry Gordy Jr. found out they had hustled a national Tonight Show appearance\, he signed them without an audition to be the marquee act for the company’s Workshop Jazz label. That proved short-lived\, and Stubbs’ powerhouse baritone lead and the exquisite harmonies of Fakir\, Benson\, and Payton started making one smash after another with the writing-producing trio Holland-Dozier-Holland. Their first Motown hit\, “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964\, made them stars and their sixties track record on the label is indispensable to any retrospective of the decade. As the story goes\, concertmaster violinist Savannah Buist\, and cellist\, Katie Larson\, raised their hands at the request for volunteers to play a music boosters concert and wound up being musical soulmates.  The Accidentals spent the better part of the last year writing songs for a TIME OUT album with writers who inspired them to create\, including Hall of Fame writer Beth Nielsen Chapman (Willie Nelson\, Elton John\, Faith Hill)\, barrier-breaking Kim Richey\, and Maia Sharp (Bonnie Raitt\, Dixie Chicks\, Cher)\, among others. DJ will be playing on the stage Wednesday thru Sunday. Sunday will be the end of the festival parade starting at 1pm in the village of Holland and traveling through the street to the festival. DESCRIPTION:Put-in-Bay | 11 a.m. \nCelebrate the founding of Put-in-Bay by Hispanic merchant Jose de Rivera at the 48th Founder’s Day in de Rivera Park. Many vendors\, hot dogs\, strawberry shore-cake\, root beer floats and lots of fun! \nIn 1854 a Spanish merchant named Joseph de Rivera bought South Bass\, Middle Bass\, Sugar\, Gibraltar\, Ballast and Starve Island for a price of $44\,000. He began to develop to islands building a sawmill and a stave mill in the fall of 1854. He had the county engineer survey the area in 10-acre lots. In the first ten years\, de Rivera sold 42 parcels of land in South and Middle Bass. He sold a quarter acre of land to the South Bass Board of Education for a dollar. The park downtown is named de Rivera Park in his honor.
