SUMMARY:The Accidentals
DESCRIPTION:Glass City Metropark | 7 p.m. \nMetroParks Toledo Special Presentation \nFree admission. \nLong before glowing acclaim from NPR and Billboard\, packed shows\, unforgettable festival appearances\, millions of streams\, and collaborations with everyone from BTS to Contemporary Youth Orchestra\, the journey of The Accidentals commenced in a public high school classroom in Traverse City\, Michigan. As the story goes\, concertmaster violinist Savannah Buist\, and cellist\, Katie Larson\, raised their hands at the request for volunteers to play a music boosters concert and wound up being musical soulmates.  The Accidentals spent the better part of the last year writing songs for a TIME OUT album with writers who inspired them to create\, including Hall of Fame writer Beth Nielsen Chapman (Willie Nelson\, Elton John\, Faith Hill)\, barrier-breaking Kim Richey\, and Maia Sharp (Bonnie Raitt\, Dixie Chicks\, Cher)\, among others. After a sold-out\, 13-city tour and 15 weeks on top ten radio\, they decided to record TIME OUT 2. With the release of the second TIME OUT comes another round of compelling co-written songs and this incredible lineup. We hope you’ll join us for a TIME OUT! SUMMARY:ProMedica Summer Concert Series: Common
DESCRIPTION:Promenade Park | 6:15 p.m. \nProMedica Live Summer Concert Series.\nGates open at 5. Tickets at TicketMaster.com. \nCommon first hit the scene with his release Can I Borrow a Dollar? in 1992\, and continues to see success in all aspects of his career. He is now known to be an Academy Award\, Emmy\, and Grammy-winning artist\, actor\, author\, and activist. \nCommon’s music transcends. His thoughtful beat poet style of storytelling has inspired many. His latest album\, A Beautiful Revolution Part 2\, is a timely and inspiring follow-up to his previous album\, A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 1. Pt. 1 of the album was written in 2020 during the height of the pandemic when racial and social justice protests\, a contested election and economic collapse were polarizing the country. The first half of the album was written as a call to action to uplift\, heal and inspire listeners dealing with these injustices. A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2 continues this call to action\, but one that sees the world in a new light. The album signifies a rebirth of sorts as listeners learn to cope with and elevate from this tragedy and turmoil. They are given a chance to create a better tomorrow and a responsibility never to forget the past obstacles they have faced. \nCommon’s melodic messages around love and strength in self and strength in community are a perfect way to kick off the 2022 ProMedica Live Summer Concert Series.

SUMMARY:The Temptations & The Four Tops
DESCRIPTION:Centennial Terrace | 8 p.m. \nThe Temptations\nFor more than 50 years\, The Temptations have prospered\, propelling popular music with a series of smash hits\, and sold-out performances throughout the world. The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine\, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy\, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early sixties. It wasn’t until 1964 however; that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced “The Way You Do the things You Do” turned the guys into stars An avalanche of hits followed\, many of which…”My Girl\,” for instance…attained immortality. “It’s Growing\,” “Since I Lost My Baby;\,” “Get Ready\,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg\,” “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep\,” “I Wish It Would Rain” … the hits kept coming. The Temptations are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. \nThe Four Tops\nThe quartet\, originally called the Four Aims\, made their first single for Chess in 1956\, and spent seven years on the road and in nightclubs\, singing pop\, blues\, Broadway\, but mostly jazz — four-part harmony jazz. When Motown’s Berry Gordy Jr. found out they had hustled a national Tonight Show appearance\, he signed them without an audition to be the marquee act for the company’s Workshop Jazz label. That proved short-lived\, and Stubbs’ powerhouse baritone lead and the exquisite harmonies of Fakir\, Benson\, and Payton started making one smash after another with the writing-producing trio Holland-Dozier-Holland. Their first Motown hit\, “Baby I Need Your Loving” in 1964\, made them stars and their sixties track record on the label is indispensable to any retrospective of the decade. Their songs\, soulful and bittersweet\, were across-the-board successes. “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie\, Honey Bunch)\,” a no. 1 R&B and Pop smash in 1965\, is one of Motown’s longest-running chart-toppers; it was quickly followed by a longtime favorite\, “extraordinary run of instant H-D-H classics. Other Tops hits from the decade included “Ask The Lonely\,” “Shake Me\, Wake Me (When It’s Over)\,” “Something About You.” \nTickets available at etix.com and the Stranahan Theater Box office (419-381-8851).\nTier 1 Reserved: $65\nTier 2 Reserved: $55\nGeneral Admission: $36 (Standing or bring a small chair) / $40 day of the show if not sold out.
