SUMMARY:Toledo Symphony: An American Rhapsody
DESCRIPTION:Toledo Museum of Art Peristyle | 8 p.m. \nRita Barbour Kern Masterworks\nAn American Rhapsody \nThe American Rhapsody is a tribute to the ideals of courage\, freedom\, and commitment while also serving as a story of vulnerability and the progression of humanity through the great injustices which plague our history. William Dawson’s Negro Folk Symphony is emotionally charged and rigorously constructed\, taking themes from melodies he learned at his mother’s knee.

SUMMARY:Dwight Yoakam
DESCRIPTION:Stranahan Theater | 8 p.m. \nDoors: 7 p.m.\nTickets: $49 to $254 at etix.com or Stranahan Theater box office. \nRaised on the Bakersfield honky tonk of Buck Owens and traditional country like Johnny Cash and Hank Williams\, Dwight Yoakam has created more than a dozen studio albums of his self-described hillbilly music over nearly four decades. On his 2012 collection\, “3 Pears\,” the Kentucky-born performer reached out to Kid Rock and Ashley Monroe of Pistol Annies for co-writing help on a couple songs\, while Beck co-produced the successful set. \nTicket buyers know a slew of Yoakam singles when they head to his concerts — from the chart-topping “Guitars Cadillacs” from the similarly-titled 1986 debut and “I Sang Dixie” off of 1988’s “Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room” to 1993’s “A Thousand Miles from Nowhere.” And when he’s not on the tour bus canvassing the nation\, the singer/songwriter may be on a movie set. His acting credits include critically acclaimed roles as an abusive boyfriend in “Sling Blade” and a psychopath killer in “Panic Room.”

SUMMARY:Toledo Opera: Romeo & Juliet
DESCRIPTION:Valentine Theatre | February 16 & 18 \nRomeo & Juliet \nThe world’s most celebrated love story finds a new dimension in Charles Gounod’s classic retelling of William Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet.  Set in 15th century Verona\, the deep and rapturous love between Romeo and Juliet rivals the longstanding feud between their families – the Montagues and the Capulets.
