SUMMARY:Live at the Library with Miss Emily
DESCRIPTION:Toledo Lucas County Public Library welcomes all to our concert series\, Live at the Library\, a series featuring musical talent as they tour the country. This month\, we welcome singer Miss Emily. \nMiss Emily’s story is one of resilience\, grit\, and triumph. In 2020\, just days after winning three Maple Blues Awards — Female Vocalist\, New Artist\, and Sapphire Blues Video of the Year — the world shut down\, leaving her with an empty calendar for the first time in two decades. Undeterred\, she channeled her energy into a bold idea: creating LIVE at the Isabel\, a live album drawn from six electrifying\, sold-out performances at Kingston’s Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts. \nReleased in October 2020 to rave reviews\, the album captured the magic of her roof-rattling live shows. Despite skeptics doubting the viability of submitting a live album for a JUNO\, Miss Emily proved them wrong. In 2022\, LIVE at the Isabel earned a JUNO nomination for Blues Album of the Year\, cementing her status as a force in the Canadian music scene. \nMiss Emily’s powerhouse vocals\, magnetic stage presence\, and determination have been forged through 20 years in Southern Ontario’s bars and clubs. Her performances are unforgettable\, her spirit unstoppable. With a soulful blend of blues\, rock\, and passion\, she continues to inspire and captivate audiences.\nShe is excited to perform at the Toledo Main Library\, connecting with and performing for the Toledo audience!

SUMMARY:Live at the Library with Joshua Davis
DESCRIPTION:Toledo Lucas County Public Library welcomes all to our concert series\, Live at the Library\, featuring musical talent as they tour the country. This month\, we welcome singer and guitarist Joshua Davis. \nJoshua Davis was raised in the folk tradition\, immersed in music\, social movements\, and the land. With a voice both weathered and warm\, Davis captivates audiences\, bringing confessional intimacy to any stage\, whether a global venue or a small\, offbeat room. His poetic sensibility\, tireless work ethic\, and remarkable ability to connect with listeners of all ages have made him a standout troubadour. \nFor over two decades\, the Michigan-based artist has honed his craft as a songwriter\, bandleader\, guitarist\, and vocalist. Deeply invested in the American musical diaspora\, Davis explores the threads connecting folk\, blues\, jazz\, ragtime\, and country\, all while forging his own unique style. “I’m not a purist\,” he explains. “I play with the American folk lineage and its metaphors.” \nA finalist on NBC’s The Voice (Season 8)\, Davis has released a steady stream of albums\, each reflecting his heartfelt observations on life\, love\, and change. His latest release\, Live From The Robin\, recorded over two nights\, pares his songs to their emotional\, musical\, and lyrical roots. It offers a raw\, intimate glimpse of an artist in deep conversation with his audience. “I’ve wanted to make this album for years\,” Davis says. “I love playing solo shows. They let me dig deep into my songs and really connect with the moment.” \nJoshua is excited to join us at Main Library to meet our Toledo audience!

SUMMARY:Live at the Library with Guy Davis
DESCRIPTION:Toledo Lucas County Public Library welcomes all to our concert series\, Live at the Library\, featuring musical talent as they tour the country. This month\, we welcome musician and songwriter Guy Davis! \nGuy Davis is a two-time Grammy-nominated musician\, actor\, playwright\, and songwriter whose work spans Roots\, Blues\, Folk\, and World Music. His theater work includes starring in Finian’s Rainbow and Robert Johnson: Trick the Devil\, which earned him a “Keeping the Blues Alive” award. \nGuy’s dynamic career also includes performances in over 48 states and internationally. He’s played alongside legends like Pete Seeger and Taj Mahal and opened for B.B. King and Joan Armatrading. Beyond music\, he’s written award-winning plays\, including The Adventures of Fishy Waters\, and hosted 400 online shows during the pandemic. \nGuy continues to tour\, teach\, and inspire audiences worldwide\, blending traditional and modern styles to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds. As he says\, “There is no tale so tall that I cannot tell it\, nor song so sweet that I cannot sing it.”
